Saxophonist, composer and pedagogue, Marcello Sbrocca has extensive experience with what makes the saxophone unique in the musical world, as well as how to convey this to an audience or a student. Musically, he has a firm understanding of myriad genres of music, ranging from J.S. Bach to band music to modern contemporary works. Dr. Sbrocca loves teaching as much as he does performing, and has taught at establishments such as the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Colorado Boulder, Boulder High School, and l’Atelier Numérique de Versailles, France. He has experience with all ages of students, whether they are beginners who have never put their instrument together, or advanced students looking to audition for music school or a competition. He is also able to teach in English and French. Currently, Marcello is a teacher at Mountainside Music Academy in Boulder, CO. With several compositions, such as his suite of Preludes or his Prélude au Récit, and arrangements, such as Sequenza I by Luciano Berio or Image by Eugène Bozza, Sbrocca is not only active in multiple aspects of music, but he is able to help students who are looking to understand music theory or arrange their favorite song for the instrument. As a performer, Marcello has performed concertos with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra (Dr. Joseph Young, conductor) and the Ensemble de Saxophone de Versailles (Vincent David, conductor), as well as a mixture of solo and chamber music performances at La Maison d’Espange (Paris, FR), Fondation Biermans-Lapôtre (Paris, FR), l’Atelier Numérique de Versailles (Versailles, FR), Selmer Showroom (Paris, FR), École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles (Versailles, FR), Eindhoven (The Netherlands), University of Northern Colorado, the Peabody Conservatory and CU Boulder. He is also working on commissioning a new solo work for alto saxophone that will be premiering in 2025 by the Peabody Conservatory professor and composer Richard Drehoff Jr.. Marcello's distinctive education reaches across three countries with some of the most renowned saxophonists in the world. He completed his Bachelor of Music in his hometown with Tom Myer at the University of Colorado Boulder, as well as with Arno Bornkamp at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Amsterdam, The Netherlands). He obtained his unique Master's degree, Master: Musique, Interprétation et Patrimoine, from the Conservatoire de Versailles/Université de Paris-Saclay where he studied with the great Vincent David (Versailles, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, and Paris, France).
