Alex Yang

Alex Yang is a percussionist and educator whose diverse musical voice spans classical, contemporary, marching, and world traditions. Originally from Houston, Texas, his artistic philosophy centers on storytelling, re-imagining the expressive potential of the percussion medium, and creating an authentic, shared acoustic experience between the performer and the listener, with performances lauded as “a beautiful, compelling display of virtuosity and artistry. ” As an active performer, Alex’s background includes several seasons in DCI and WGI ensembles, featured appearances at PASIC, and regular performances with numerous professional orchestras and wind ensembles across Texas and Colorado. He has also toured a dozen countries with the World Percussion Group as a chamber and solo artist, performing at a number of Europe’s foremost music conservatories and collaborating alongside some of the leading names in percussion.

Alex has worked extensively as an instructor and marching technician with premier scholastic and independent ensembles throughout Texas and Colorado, as well as serving several seasons as a Drum Corps educator. Alex holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of North Texas and a Master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Colorado Boulder, where he previously served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant.
