Charlie Bistodeau

Charlie is an active professional violinist, playing in regional groups such as the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Boulder Opera, Boulder Symphony, and Longmont Symphony. Charlie received his master's degree from the University of Colorado Boulder where he was a Teaching Assistant for Fritz Gearhart and the late Charles Wetherbee. In his undergraduate studies, Charlie studied under renowned pedagogue Julia Bushkova at the University of North Texas. He has won several competitions including the Alaska Youth Symphony, Anchorage Civic Orchestra, and Anchorage Chamber Music Festival Concerto Competitions.

Charlie also played as first violin in the Frieden Quartet, which was awarded a fellowship at the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival and competed in the finals of the Coltman and MTNA Chamber Music Competitions. Charlie grew up in Anchorage, Alaska and started learning violin at age 4. His teaching philosophy is that whether or not students choose to pursue music, there is so much to learn from studying the art form that can apply to any aspect of their lives: Learning how to learn, communicating with others, cultivating curiosity, and finding satisfaction in overcoming difficult hurdles. In his spare time, Charlie enjoys playing pickleball and cooking with his wife.
